As exciting things go, this is pretty exciting… on 27th February we’ll be welcoming photographer, Michael Brohm, to Leeds – and this marks the start of a new area of activity for Exposure Leeds; international twinning.
Twinning, as you’ll see from the link above, is our attempt to combine the two most important aims of the group – that of developing both better photography and community-relevant photography. Through this scheme Exposure Leeds aims to create and enhance links with photographers located elsewhere – while giving Exposure Leeds members a the opportunity to develop their own skills, experiences and body of work.
From a chat during Leeds Photo Week, back in September 2010, wheels were set in motion that led to us setting up Michael’s visit this year. As you’ll see, if you visit Michael’s website, he has already undertaken twinning experiences – shooting his wonderful portraits in Perm, Russia.
Michael is with us for a little over a week, during which he’ll not only be speaking to Exposure Leeds at Talk&Social (2nd March) and joining us for a portrait workshop (5th March) but he’ll also be spending the somewhat focused period of time getting to know Leeds and it’s people and then capturing them.
I hope you’ll join myself and my co-directors, along with International Leeds, East Street Arts and Project Space Leeds in welcoming Michael to our city and region – the first of what we hope will be many twinning opportunities with Louisville and with photographers throughout the world.
Thanks, Jon
