Farne Islands wildlife photography

Emma shares a gallery of her ornithological images from the Northumberland coast.

The Farne Islands are a three-hour car journey up to Northumberland, followed by a 40-minute boat ride out to sea. On our trips we first visited Staple Island then went on to Inner Farne passing other the other islands in the chain – viewing them from the boat.

I’ve found that the best time to go is late June – but the birds are there from April to July.

The Farne Islands are run by The National Trust and in summer they are home to over 100,000 nesting birds.

Our new gallery format is shown below; hover over images for titles and captions; use the arrows or thumbnails to navigate and we recommend you go full screen using the far right button. Some users (on iphone, ipad, ipod touch etc) will see a slightly different set of controls.

The Gallery is a new series of posts, aiming to show photo projects or series from members – these can either be complete or works in progress; the only requirement being that there is some definable theme for the images. For more, or to submit your work, email jon[at]exposureleeds[dot]org
