The group has several Aims and Objectives – all aimed at improving photography (and photographers) in and around the Leeds area; one of these revolves around our involvement in the local community: To facilitate opportunities for members to provide photographic support to the local community, to charities and to other community organisations.
For 2011 we have decided that a main focus of our community activity will be around the ‘Looking Good, Leeds’ scheme that was conceived and commenced in 2010. The Looking Good scheme aims to provide our support to communities who would benefit from improved photography of the local area, groups, individuals or events with special emphasis on helping develop small local photography groups or networks in each area.
Already underway is a trial project with the I Love West Leeds festival for the Armley area (LS12) and some initial work has been undertaken with East Street Arts’ Union 105 gallery and the Chapeltown Development Trust to establish a presence in the area around Chapeltown Road (LS7). In addition we also have group leaders in place and ready to go in both Holbeck (LS11) and Bramley (LS13).
We are looking for photographers from Exposure Leeds to get involved in these projects and will be creating specific invites to events and collaborate on projects through both this site and the specific area sites; however if you are interested in getting involved then please – get in touch! We are especially interested in anyone who has started, completed or is interested in undertaking documentary or photo-journalism projects in these areas.
If you have any ideas for community projects outside the Looking Good scheme then please also get in touch and we will see if we can assist – even if just in promoting the project or finding contacts to assist.
